Up, Up and Away
This became our daily routine. Early every morning we would let them out of the kennel and they would follow us down to the pond. Sometime during the day we would call them, they would come out of the water, and we would walk around the yard so they could get some "greens" and grass seeds. We discovered that Lucy liked dandelions (the leaves). She liked them even more if you picked them and fed them to her.

On our daily walks we would notice that Lucy would always walk right with us. If she started to get behind she would run to keep up. If she couldn't keep up by running she would flap her wings to help her move even faster.
By early August, Lucy had her adult wing feathers, so we decided we would try to get her airborne. We would start at the top of a hill, get her attention, then run as fast as we could while calling her name. She would want to keep up with us, so she would flap her wings really hard. After many trial runs it happened ..... we got "lift off." At first I think it scared her. She was just inches off the ground, but she would stretch out her legs as far as she could and tip her toes down trying to reach the ground. We waited a few days and tried it again. Each time she would get a little higher and flew a little farther. It reached the point (if she was in the right mood) that when we called her, she would fly from the pond to meet us.
