Lucy and the Dogs
Whenever there is a new critter at our house, Greg explains to the dogs that it is a "pretty baby" and they are not to hurt it. That seems to be all that is needed. The dogs will be curious and will check it out, but they will not harm it in any way. That was the way the dogs met Lucy.

Our dog Abby, is a Chocolate Lab. She is very friendly and wants to be with Greg every minute of the day (and night). She is everywhere Greg is. At first she wasn't very happy that Lucy was taking up so much of Greg's time. Once Greg made sure that Abby still got some quality time, everyone was happier. It was very strange, however, that Lucy decided that she liked Abby. When they were all outside together, Lucy would follow Abby around. If Abby picked up a stick and chewed on it, then Lucy would go and get the same stick and toss it around also. She seemed to know that there was a special bond between Greg and Abby and she wanted to be part of it.
Sheba, our Collie mix, is a whole different animal. She has too much energy. If dogs can have ADHD, she has it. She is always on the go and wants all of the attention all of the time. She makes Lucy very nervious. She doesn't exactly chase Lucy (or the cats) she just approaches them very quickly. The cats have learned that when Sheba runs up to them, if you just stand still, it's not fun for Sheba and she will just walk away. I hope Lucy learns this same technique.

Muffy is the oldest of our dogs. She is an 11 year old Shitzu. At this point in time neither her eyes nor her ears work like they should. I don't think she really has a clue as to what Lucy is or why she hangs around. Their interaction is very limited.

All things considered, everyone gets along very well. Today, we are going to try taking photos for our Christmas card. In the past, our family Christmas card was a picture of our four children. Once our children were grown and sent out their own cards we started taking pictures of our dogs for the cards. We think it would be perfect if we could capture a picture of the three dogs with Lucky and Lucy...we'll see.
